THE MOUNTAINS ON FIRE !!!!

By-Cora,Ian,Eleanor,Cedric

This morning it smelled like smoke outside but we couldn't see any fire
About an hour later Cedric called us upstairs so we all looked outside and we saw smoke near the mountain on the other side of the valley then we heard a airplane and Eleanor said " Whoa look how close the airplane is " so we all ran outside and there was the plane (the kind of bomber that sprays fires) right over our heads.

here are some pics of the planes

here are some pics of the fire later
and here are some at nightand here is the smokey moon

Independence Day

Hooray! It is the 4th of July--Independence Day a day for early morning breakfast with flag ceremony and the National Anthem. "Oh, say can you see?..."
Then there are picnics, sometimes parades, and fireworks!!!! What a great day to celebrate. Here are some great people your parents will know. (click on the pix to enlarge)

Grandpa and I are going to a party in a few minutes. I thought I would post some pix of the bantam chicks. They are looking more grown today. Fritzy is a white Frizzy. She is very tiny and has beautiful feathers. She is bossy and pecks at her coop mate's head. She is all ready for the holiday.
This chick looks like a road runner. She has no name. I just keep thinking she is a rooster, so I can't come up with a name. I think it should be a Mohawk or Iriquois Indian name. That is what she looks like to me. She is a Polish Crowned Bantam.
Now here is a picture you will never see again. I lay back in the chair with my feet up. The kitten, Bell or Bella Deux, jumped on my lap. Boo jumps up and falls asleep on the other side. The kitten stretches out and lays her head against Boo. They are finally relaxing about being in the same house. Not to be outdone, Abby jumps up into the seat, too.
Off to Orem now to see the Cul-de-sac of fire with Amy and Dave's family. Have fun.

Bantam Chicks

I bought two bantam chicks for pets. All my chickens are pets, sort of, but I want these to be pet pets. It is all the rage in Hollywood. Silly me, I just want to be like the stars, JK. I think it will be fun to tame them so they sit on your shoulder or lap. I will have to make some chicken nappies for them. Aunt Alicia showed me a website about a lady who has done that, and she has the cage next to her bed at night. I don't think that is going to happen.

One chick is a white Frizzy. That is why she looks all messy around the neck. Her frizzy feathers are just growing in.

The other is some sort of crowned chick. She has some pin feathers coming on the back of her head, but she is younger and just looks like a normal chick right now. She moved around too much and her pictures were fuzzy.
I hope I get some time to tame them soon.

Here is one of my favorite nonsense recipes from Edward Lear:

Nonsense Cookery (Edward Lear)

Amblongus Pie

take 4 pounds (say 4 1/2 pounds) of fresh amblongusess, and put them into a small pipkin .
cover them with water and boil them for 8 hours incessantly, after which add 2 pints of new milk and proceed to boil for 4 hours more.
when you have ascertained that the amblongusess are quite soft, take them out and place them in a wide pan, taking care to shake them well previously.
grate some nutmeg over the surface, and cover them carefully with powdered gingerbread, curry powder, and a sufficient quantity of cayanne papper.
remove the pan into the next room and place it on the floor.
bring it back again, and let it simmer for three-quarters of an hour.
shake the pan violently till all the amblongusess have become a pale purple color.
then having prepared the paste, insert the whole carefully , adding at the same time a small pigeon, 2 slices of beef, 4 cauliflowers, and any number oysters.
watch patiently till the crust begins to rise, and add a pinch of salt from time to time.
serve up in a clean dish, and throw the whole out the window as fast as possible.
